this topic was inspired by the guests in this forum and how the admin determine their identity (sort of) by tracing their IP addresses..

This topic aims to develop a new algorithm/technique for tracing anonymous packet flooding attacks in the Internet back towards their source by using the different IP traceback algorithms present today.

-to develop a new algorithm/technique in tracing IP address.
-to prevent abuse, attacks, and other malicious acts using the internet.
-to compare the new developed algorithm to the existing algorithms.

well, as what i read from the resent IP tracing algorithm, the victim needs to type in the last IP address the attacker used before the software starts tracing the source. in my study, i would like to make an IP tracing algorithm that trace the source of an attack automatically. the victim need not to bother anymore in finding the last IP address the attacker used.

as what i noticed on the articles i read about ip tracing algorithms, almost all the IP tracing algorithms present today have the same features, trace the original IP address used by the attacker and blocked it to avoid the attack again, they only differ on how they would do this.
in my proposed topic, im not aiming to add new features about the existing algorithm, but i would like to develop a faster yet reliable IP tracing algorithm by combining the idea of the existing algorithms and the basic concept of programming on searching paths..

packet marking approuch
Router based approach
Out-of-band approaches
Trace-back of active attack flows

they also mentioned about the use of hashing functions. hashing is a basic seeking algorithm in programing. (packet marking approach - probabilistic packet marking)..
